It is not uncommon for many, especially children, to have difficulty brushing the rear molars in the mouth. When teeth are not brushed properly, food and bacteria build up, causing the tooth enamel to wear away, becoming a cavity. Thankfully, there is a treatment known as dental sealants, which is the perfect solution to help prevent tooth decay from developing on the rear molars.
This treatment is a clear coating that is brushed on the chewing surface of the rear molars to help eliminate the deep grooves in the teeth. The clear coating hardens and dries, making it easy to properly clean the teeth and helping to prevent cavities. While this treatment is typically used on our younger patients, adults are eligible for this treatment if they have not had a cavity in one of their rear molars. It is important that you follow the treatment directions to ensure that the sealants remain on the teeth. It is best to avoid sticky foods, such as gummy treats.
